Upgrade your Distro
From Amahi
Upgrading your Fedora Core
If you want to upgrade to the newest version of Amahi and its officially supported Fedora release you can. And the best thing is, it's VERY easy to upgrade, even as easy as your initial Amahi install.
First Step - Backup Your Data
Now I wish I could tell you your data is safe and everything will be just the same after the upgrade, but you can NEVER be too safe, so before you do the upgrade, im going to need you to backup all important data. That means if you have apps installed that have information in them, export that info and save any files that are in shares to either another computer or a flash drive.
Now there has been no reports of lost data yet, but that does not mean that it cannot happen, so PLEASE FOLLOW THE INFORMATION ABOVE before updating.
Second Step - Download and Burn Your DVD ISO
Now its time to update your server the the latest officially Amahi supported version of Fedora. The easiest way to do this is to download a Fedora DVD ISO and burn it to a DVD± R/RW with burning software. MAKE SURE YOU GET THE DVD ISO, NOT CD OR LIVE CD.
The best burning software I have found is InfraRecorder for Windows, Burn or Disco for OSX, and Brasero for Linux. I recommend burning the DVD ISO file at the slowest speed to get the best results out of the burn.
Third Step - Turn DHCP Server ON on your Router
While this is burning I recommend turning DHCP SERVER ON on your router so that you will have internet connection during the update. Just do the opposite of what you did when you first installed Amahi, we will disable this later.
Step Four - Booting with the DVD
After you have finished burning your new Fedora Core DVD, and have turned DHCP SERVER ON on your router, insert your disk into the server and boot from it.
This will look the same as before, only this time you will want to select "Upgrade" instead of "Install" and follow the steps, no need to install a new repo or anything like that, so nothing fancy, just a normal upgrade of the OS. Note that this can take some time, so leaving it and watching TV or something of that sort might take away from the time, and leaving it is OK.
Step Five - Make sure everything works and install the Amahi Repo
After you do this remove the DVD you just installed with and boot into your newly upgraded server. When your in, make sure you have internet, and open up FireFox and follow the wiki page to upgrade your Amahi repo from fx.amahi.org to fn.amahi.org (where fx is your old version and fn is the new version). To do this just follow the 'FIRST COMMAND on that page.
Step Six - Turn DCHP Server OFF on your router
When this is all done, and your system is all good and running on the internet, turn DHCP SERVER OFF on your router and reboot your HDA so that it is now the controller of DHCP. Make sure you reboot your clients if you used them wile DHCP Server was handled by your router.
Your done!!! Make sure all apps work, as well as all your files are in your shares etc. Basically make sure everything is the same as before. If it is not, contact us, come by the IRC Channel or hit up the Forums and let us know, we might have a fix for you.
