We list here important recommendations for translating Amahi

While translating Do NOT

  • Do not translate things like <pre>Template:Count</pre> because these are variables
  • Do not eliminate the HTML, preserve it and adapt it. Like links (a href ..) for best results
  • Do NOT translate Amahi to your native alphabet. Experts have recommended that this it is best thing to do.
  • If you see something you do not understand, please let us know, do not change it
  • Do not translate from other than from english ("en") (in the "Translate from" line)

While translating Do

  • First Set your language in the to: field
  • Click on untranslated up top to show what has not been translated yet. You can also click on all and so forth if you feel brave enough to review all the translations, etc.
  • You may want to use the Auto translate links if you feel it helps reduce typing
  • You may or may NOT do the so called activerecord fields (they are generic validation messages not specific to amahi), though there are quite a few:
     Key: activerecord.
  • Pay much attention and preserve (to the extent possible):
    • Parenthesis
    • Capitalization
    • Period at end end
    • ... and any other marks like exclamation point, etc.
  • Preserve the intent of the phrase to the extent that you can :)
  • Preserve any HTML in the strings (adapt as necessary)
  • If you are not too sure (and even if you are), it's a good idea to go to a popular native site for news or email or a portal and see how they login users, how they cover technology and use the words they use there. Try to use a popular site, not a techy site

Thanks!!
