Some times, Vista and Windows 7 don't operate well with short URLs.

Here's a fix that worked for me (Vista/Windows 7 specific)

For Windows Vista In Control Panel/network connections

  1. Right click your ethernet card (or similar) and select properties
  2. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and press the properties button
  3. Click the "Advanced" button
  4. Select the DNS tab
  5. Press the "Append these DNS suffixes (in order)" button
  6. Add your home server's domain name (eg. home.com)
  7. Press the required OKs, apply, close ...

All should work correctly now

For Windows 7

  1. In Control Panel select Network And Sharing Center
  2. In the left margin, select 'Change adapter settings
  3. Right click your ethernet card (or similar) and select properties
  4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 and press the properties button
  5. Click the Advanced button
  6. Select the DNS tab
  7. Press the Append these DNS suffixes (in order) button
  8. Add your home server's domain name (eg. home.com)
  9. Press the required OKs, apply, close ...
