= Development Notes =

'''DISCLAIMER:'''  These notes are for development of Amahi with Fedora 14.  These notes are not by any means anything for users to follow.  Please continue to install Fedora 12 for new Amahi installs.  Fedora 14 is not '''OFFICIALLY''' supported yet by Amahi.

The following '''ARE NOT''' Amahi ready with Fedora 14 at this time:

* ExpressCD:  estimate late Feb 2011

* Plug:  depends on Fedora 14 ARM release

== Amahi Repo ==

* 32-bit and 64-bit is ready.

* Use '''<nowiki>http://f14.amahi.org</nowiki>''' for install.

* App store is not complete yet - there are '''NO''' apps publicly available.

== Amahi Install ==

* Web installer works.

<!--, but need to update hdactl and restart installer:

yum install hdactl --nodeps

service amahi-installer restart-->

* Open browser and navigate to '''<nowiki>http://localhost:2000</nowiki>'''

* Enter install code

== Known Issues ==

* Fedora creates small root (/) and large home (/home) partition. Recommend users resize them to allow for a larger root partition since that is where the Amahi shares reside.

* [http://www.amahi.org/support/instructions Installation instructions] are not updated for Fedora 14.

# Ensure '''Graphical Desktop''' is checked.

<!--# Enable '''Fedora i386''' (32-bit) or '''Fedora x86_64''' (64-bit) repo (this is will be removed once the Amahi repo is aligned).-->

# Add '''Amahi''' repo as noted above.

# Then continue with install as documented.

<!--# After installation, as '''root''' user (once added to amahi repo, this will be no longer required):

rpm -Uvh http://alpha.amahi.org/tmp/hda-platform-5.6.11-1.noarch.rpm -->

* There is a problem with setting the timezone in PHP.  A workaround is in place to allow the install process to continue.  This will affect some apps.

* phpBB:  Works, but has [phpBB Debug] PHP Notice: in file /index.php on line 86: date(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Chicago' for 'CDT/-5.0/DST' instead

* Mantis:  Works, but has SYSTEM WARNING: date_default_timezone_get(): It is not safe to rely on the system's timezone settings. You are *required* to use the date.timezone setting or the date_default_timezone_set() function. In case you used any of those methods and you are still getting this warning, you most likely misspelled the timezone identifier. We selected 'America/Chicago' for 'CDT/-5.0/DST' instead

== Install without Logical Volume Management (LVM) ==

'''WARNING:'''  I recommend you disable/unplug ALL hard disks you do not want to put the system on to make it easier to partition. Data loss can result if you don't know what disks are which or you make an error.

OK now here is the easy/hard part. I recommend you set up disk partitions without using the default lvm setup. Heres how.

At the partitioning point of the Fedora 14 installer:

1. Select '''Create Custom Layout''' and click '''Next'''.

2. Next delete ''lv-root'' and ''lv-swap'' by selecting one at a time and clicking '''delete'''.

3. Also delete '''vg_xxxxxxx''' the same way by clicking on it and hitting '''delete''' (Note xxxxxx is different on every machine).

4. Now delete '''ALL''' partitions under hard drives. Now you will see free space the size of the drive.

5. Click on the free space and click '''Create'''. On the menu select '''standard partition'''.

Go to file system type and click '''Swap''' (if you have > 2GB of ram and plenty of HDD space, make it at least 1GB '''Fixed''' size. Hit '''OK'''.

6. Click '''Create''' again, and we will make a ''/boot'' mount point. Click free space, click '''Create''', '''Standard Partition''' under mount point select ''/boot'' file system type is '''Ext4''' you should be ok with 500MB here. I would not go under 200 or so. Click '''OK'''

7. The last one. Your ROOT partition. I would make it the rest of the disk. Just click free space, and '''Create''' one more time. Under mount point select ''/''.  Under file system type select '''EXT4''' under leave the size box along and select '''Fill to Maximum allowable size''' that will use up the rest of the disk, and give you plenty of room for a landing zone if you plan to use greyhole.

8. Click '''NEXT''' and select '''Write Changes to Disk'''.
