Elements of a screencast

  • Idea for the topic of the screencast
  • Title
  • Small description (1-2 Paragraphs)
  • Knowledge about how to preform the task for the screencast
  • Video capture of the task
  • Small intro video (~6 seconds)
  • Small ending video (~4 seconds)

Steps

  1. Do the following steps as necessary, improving in each iteration:
    • Create/edit a script
    • Record a screen capture
    • Record a voice over using script and voiceover
    • Watch the rough screen capture with the voice over
    • Tweak or re-record a new screen capture while listening to voice over
  2. Import the latest screen capture and voice over to a video editing program like iMovie
  3. Add a small intro video, with a title (we have one)
  4. Play the screen capture and the voice over at the same time
  5. Edit video and audio to be synchronized
  6. Add a small ending video (optional)
  7. Export the entire screencast
