* x - each year there will be a new release (i.e. 7, 8, 9).
* y - every calendar quarter there will be a new major version (i.e. 8.0 8.1, 8.2), starting at 0 for quarter one.* z - patch and security intermediate releases are issued as necessary (i.e. 8.1.1, 8.1.2), also known as "point releases".
