Sometimes the AmahiTunes server may not appear in iTunes on XP or Vista machines. One solution is to restart the "Bonjour Service" - this is sometimes stopped by Apple's installers. Here's a link with details http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1567?viewlocale=en_US
