<page introduction text goes here>Each of us in recent years has been touched by the term “Cloud Computing” in some way. Either by experience with existing personal use of “public cloud services”, media articles hype, ravings from I.T. boffins, people naming dropping the latest techie terms etc. ... All sources claiming it's the “greatest thing since sliced bread”. You know the drill right? Many organizations and people have jumped on the public cloud band wagon for various reasons. It's free or cheap (to a point). Data is safely stored with the minimum of hassle. It's flexible to access (anywhere, anytime, most any device). There are all sorts of neat applications can be used to enhance use of the data. Yup, all good stuff! Yes all of the above are great idea, until, reality bites back. In come the litigators, the legal authorities, the public cloud provider “Terms of Use” statements. Paid any attention to what has been going on with the “take downs”, cloud service providers going out of business, the organization merges/buyouts? Oh yes very scary stuff. Now the “owners” who thought it was there data have found it's no longer theirs or access has been cut-off. Ouch! Take control of your own data. Bring it home where it belongs. Use a “private cloud”. Eliminate/minimize the need for a public cloud. If some public cloud access is required then the private cloud becomes a “hybrid cloud” (combination of the two).
