Welcome to the Amahi Wiki!
The Amahi home server is a server for home and home office environments.
The focus of the Amahi server is to build a home server with usability, cross-platform standards compliance and overall ease of use in mind.
More simply, the Amahi server is about making your home networking simple!
The term "home networking" is defined very broadly. The Amahi server is meant to be installed by you, the tech users (though the only requirement is to be able to install Linux). Ultimately, though, the goal is to benefit regular computer users in the home. Every tech user has others who need their help in running their "digital lives," like spouses, kids, neighbors, cousins, elder relatives, etc. Amahi is about making your life easier while helping them much better.
To describe best what the Amahi server is, we came up with a term: HDA ... "like a PDA, but for the home." So, HDA stands for Home Digital Assistant, which is what Amahi is all about.
Every Amahi HDA provides all the things you would want in a home server:
- Calendaring, Wiki
- Shared network storage, Network Backups
- Printer server, Remote access
- ... (see below)
The Amahi server is Linux-based, which means it's reliable and virus-free. The project aims to make it 100% compatible with PCs and Macs. The goal is to make it a joy to install, run, and more so, a joy to use!
Getting Started
To get started with Amahi, install it on spare hardware. Most people will take this route.

Alternatively, a company graciously donated a few old machines and made a few higher end others at favorable price, and we're looking for new alpha users who want not just the software!
We will give you an HDA preconfigured just for you:
- Power users: we send you a preinstalled, very powerful HDA box (dual Opteron, 2GB RAM) for a very low cost
- Enthusiasts: we send you preinstalled HDA hardware (for free - well, the cost of shipping)
We are looking for hardware partners who would like to build Amahi home servers with our software in it! Please contact us.
