Welcome to the Amahi Wiki!

The Amahi home server is a server for home and home office environments.

Our focus is to build a home and personal server with usability, cross-platform standards compliance and coolness in mind.

More simply, the Amahi server is meant to make home networking simple.

It is meant to be installed by somewhat technical users, for the benefit of those less technical users. Every technical user we know has others who he/she helps run their "digital lives," like spouses, kids, neighbors, cousins, elder relatives, etc.

We set out to build a "PDA for the home" usable by everyone in a home or a small business. To describe what the Amahi server is, we came up with a term: HDA ... like a PDA, but for the home: Home Digital Assistant.

It provides all the things you would want in a home server:

  • Calendaring, Wiki
  • Shared network storage, Network Backups
  • Printer server, Remote access
  • ... (see below)

It is Linux-based and of the main areas of focus is to make it 100% compatible with PCs and Macs.

Getting Started

To get started with Amahi, install it on spare hardware.

Alternatively, a company donated a few machines and we're looking for new alpha users! We will give you an HDA preconfigured just for you.

  • Power users: we send you a preinstalled, very powerful HDA box (dual Opteron, 2GB RAM) for a very low cost
  • Enthusiasts: we send you preinstalled HDA hardware (for free - well, the cost of shipping)
