Welcome to the Amahi Wiki!

The Amahi home server is a server for home and home office environments.

Our focus is to build a home server with usability, cross-platform standards compliance and overall ease of use in mind.

More simply, the Amahi server is about making home networking simple!

We interpret home networking boradly. The Amahi server is meant to be installed by somewhat technical users, though the only requirement is to be able to install Linux. Ultimately, though, the goals is to benefit those less technical users in the home. Every technical user we know has others who he/she helps run their "digital lives," like spouses, kids, neighbors, cousins, elder relatives, etc.

We set out to build a "PDA for the home," usable by everyone in a home or a small business environment. To describe what the Amahi server is, we came up with a term: HDA ... like a PDA, but for the home: Home Digital Assistant.

Every HDA provides all the things you would want in a home server:

  • Calendaring, Wiki
  • Shared network storage, Network Backups
  • Printer server, Remote access
  • ... (see below)

It is Linux-based and of the main areas of focus is to make it 100% compatible with PCs and Macs. We want to make it a joy to install and more so, a joy to use by the ultimate users of the network.

Getting Started

To get started with Amahi, install it on spare hardware.

Alternatively, a company donated a few machines and we're looking for new alpha users! We will give you an HDA preconfigured just for you.

  • Power users: we send you a preinstalled, very powerful HDA box (dual Opteron, 2GB RAM) for a very low cost
  • Enthusiasts: we send you preinstalled HDA hardware (for free - well, the cost of shipping)

We are looking for hardware partners who would like to build Amahi home servers with our software in it! Please contact us.
